In our next interview from the ELEAGUE Major, Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli gave us his thoughts on Space Soldiers' narrow loss to SK in the first round, as well as their win earlier today against Cloud9.

Space Soldiers are now 1-1, having lost their first match to SK following a nail-biting Mirage against the Brazilians yesterday before grabbing their first W, defeating Cloud9 in another close affair earlier today.

MAJ3R discussed Space Soldiers' two close affairs so far

We grabbed the in-game leader, Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli, to find out about his team's point of view of the two matches as well as his synergy with the coach, Canpolat "hardstyle" Yıldıran:

Let's go back to yesterday's match against SK - can you tell me about how the fact that they are playing with felps affected your preparation for the match? Was it an issue?

A little bit. I was planning to play Mirage, that was the first map I wanted to play and also them. I didn't know if they wanted to play Cache again, but I was confident about Mirage, so I prepared Mirage. I watched their last game with boltz, who is playing on A as a lurker in the default, and I was trying to be empathic and thought 'okay, with felps I think they will just use him in the same role as boltz' and I watched the demo. I didn't try to antistrat but I wanted to see what they do. I didn't do a lot of preparation to also focus on our game, that's all, but it wasn't the best preparation I could have, yeah.

I was aware of what they were doing, TACO AWPing B and FalleN AWPing at A, playing at firebox, CT, or contact ramp, I knew some of the details but I didn't really antistrat, it was kind of hard with their stand-in.

The last three rounds were very close and could have gone either way, though they went SK's way in the end, how did that go from your point of view, especially Calyx's 1v2 situation?

Well, I think they played well, we also played well, I think. The last round when Calyx shot FalleN to 1 HP - for me, it was the best move we could have made, I was connector, I failed my molotov, I think, because I thought it was planted for firebox, but it was on the left. Then I told Calyx to come T spawn and come to me, because I would die for him and he would clutch.

It was the perfect move for me, but TACO made a really good shot on Calyx. It was an important round because they forcebought in that round, had we won that round it would have looked better for us, but in the end, I think they played well, they are SK, they have more experience, and I hope that loss will give us more experience.

Against Cloud9 today, the first half went very well for you with 11 rounds on the T side, but it got very close in the second half when C9 came back from a 8-14 deficit to 13-14. Can you tell me about that part?

We did the best we could, we know we have a strong T side on Cobble. After that, we said 'guys, we need that pistol, we need that pistol', because we know when we lose that pistol on Cobble, the CT side gets complicated. When I researched the veto, I was kind of lost because I didn't know what map they would pick or what map we could play, so I watched all the possible maps, Train, Mirage, Overpass, Cobble, Inferno.

I watched them all for like two hours, Cobble was surprising, but we just decided to play Cobble in the end, I talked to my teammates and asked them what they were feeling like, because the map was not important, Cloud9 can play every map, they have a good map pool. On Cobble, the CT side was kind of hard, we need to work more on that.

Did the technical break at 15-13 affect the match, your or Cloud9's composure perhaps?

For them, maybe, in that situation we can't talk, TeamSpeak is muted and we can't take off the headphones, so we can't talk about strategy, just focus. I told my guys with my eyes like 'we need to focus, let's go, just don't lose your energy'. But I'm very glad paz finished that round.

Now that you've got a win on the board, are you confident that you can go to the playoffs? What will it take?

It was important, the game today, it was very important to get one victory. Now we're more safe, we're going to keep doing what we do, playing with what we have and let's see!

You mentioned that you go through demos in preparation, is that something that hardstyle helps you with? What is the synergy and chemistry between you and the coach?

The coach is perfect, he's like my big brother, we work together, we watch demos, we also do vetoes, he gives me his opinion on what we can do, what they can do, what we'll play.

He's in this team for a long time since its creation, so he knows the guys perfectly, so sometimes he also helps me - every person has his character, so the leader also needs to understand the character of his players to be a good leader. So he's helping me a lot about that as well, the coordination and synergy is perfect between us.
